What to See & Do

* Princetown is a small town nestled by the estuary of the beautiful Gellibrand River which runs around the flanks of the mighty Otway ranges.
The Great Ocean Road emerges from the Otway ranges to greet the ocean again at Princetown. The limestone cliffs around Princetown are rich in fossils and gemstones and “Australites” have been found along the shores.
Princetown lies on the border, between the Otway and Port Campbell National Parks.

The estuarine valley of the Gellibrand River is alive with fauna. Kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wombats and other marsupials and native birds can also been seen in their favourite habitat.
The river estuary is broad enough to allow fishing, canoeing and swimming.
There are great coastal walks around the river mouth and the beach side cliffs.
There is provision for camping and caravans near the river help make Princetown a fantastic destination. The beach just west of Princetown, and the steps cut into the cliff down to it, were named after the early pioneer, Hugh Gibson.
Gibson Steps is one of Australia’s grandest sand beaches with cliffs to the west, reefs and limestone towers in the distance.
When the swell is small enough there is excellent fishing and sand bank surfing to be had along this beach.

Melba Gully

* Only 25 Minutes to Melba Gully
Melba Gully is a relatively broad and open gully containing some very tall Antarctic beeches that are often covered with epiphytes.
A well maintained path winds its way through the forest and there is a large picnic area at the carpark. This, together with the nearby Maits Rest Rainforest Walk, is some of western Victoria's best rainforest.
You can also view Glow worms.

*  Loch Ard Gorge
Loch Ard Gorge, a beautiful vista of towering cliffs, sparkling blue-green sea and a small, sandy beach. One of Victoria’s most tragic shipwrecks was played out at this very spot more than 120 years ago, giving a name to the gorge.
